Water Baptism - continued

  5.  What is the spiritual significance of water baptism?

at)  Water baptism means attending your own funeral.

        Corinthians 5:17

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The  old things have passed away; behold, all things are  become new. (KJV)

        Galatians 2:20

I was crucified with Christ; and if I live, it is no longer I who live, it is Christ who lives in me; if I now live in the flesh, I live in faith in the

Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me. (KJV)

Now the burial must take place as soon as possible after death.  Of course the burial only takes place if the person is already dead.  And so, because you are 'dead' in Christ you bury your old nature in the waters of baptism .

We must KNOW that our old sinful nature was crucified with Him when we were born again, and buried when we took our baptism, so that we need no longer live in the captivity of sin.

      b) What happened to Christ must happen to the believer:

   1.  He died...I died in Him.

        Romans 6:6-7

Knowing that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we might no longer be slaves to

sin, for he who is dead is free from sin. (KJV)

   2.  He was buried... I was buried with Him.

        Romans 6:3-4

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Jesus Christ have been baptized into his death? So we were buried

with him by baptism into death, that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also might walk

        in newness of life. (KJV)

   3.  He was resurrected...I have new life in Him.

        Romans 6:4-5

We were therefore buried with him by baptism into death, that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, of

even we too were walking in newness of life. Indeed, if we have become the same plant with him by conformity to his

death we shall also be by conformity to his resurrection, (KJV)

   4.  He was lifted up... I am lifted up in Him.

        Ephesians 2:6

He raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, (KJV)

Water baptism is an open witness to the world that means we have been buried and we are done

with our old life and that we are now living an entirely new life for Jesus Christ by the power of God.

  6.  Should I use my Faith in water baptism?

        Colossians 2:12

Having been buried with him in baptism, you are also raised in him and with him, through faith in the power of God, who raised him from

        dead. (KJV)

Faith means believing with all your heart in the Word of God and humbly speaking it with your mouth.  Praise God for the reality of His promise

before it is fulfilled is the greatest expression of faith.

Coming out of the waters of baptism, praise God because this old satanic nature which led you to sin  is now buried and thanks to the

glorious power of the Holy Spirit working in your life you will experience a victorious Christian life.

  7.  Is baptizing babies based on the Word of God?

NO !  It is a religious practice that has no Biblical foundation.  Here are five reasons:

   1.  They cannot repent of their sins (Acts 2:38).  Babies have no sins and if they die they go straight to the  sky.

         Acts 2:38

Peter said to them, Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the

gift of the Holy Spirit. (KJV)

        Acts 8:36-37

As they continued on their way, they encountered water. And the eunuch said, Here is water; what prevents me from being baptized?

Philip said: If you believe with all your heart, it is possible. The eunuch answered: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (KJV)

   2. They cannot understand the spiritual significance of water baptism (Rom 6:3-6)

   3.  They cannot choose to obey God in baptism.

   4. They cannot use their faith to walk in spiritual victory over sin after baptism. (Col 2:12) Colossians 2:12

   5.  Having been buried with him in baptism, you are also raised in him and with him, through faith in the power of God, who raised him from

      dead. (KJV)

  8.  Have I been baptized?

      a) You must be born again before you took your baptism.

      b) You must have been completely submerged in water.

      c) You must have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matt 28:19).

      d) You must have reached the age of understanding.

      e) You must have been baptized by a believer filled with the Holy Spirit.

  9.  What should I wear when I take my baptism?

  •   Ladies: A bathing suit and clothing (preferably white).

  •   Men: Shorts and clothing (preferably white).

Bring a change of clothes and underwear and a large towel.
